The ideal base for companies manufacturing and exporting to Europe and beyond
Excellent rail freight, road haulage and forwarding facilities exist in Greater Lincoln to support companies manufacturing and exporting to Europe. The road system provides easy access to all major UK ports, whilst eight east and south coast ports are within a four-hour freight journey.
The combined ports of Grimsby and Immingham, on Greater Lincoln's doorstep, handle more foreign trade than any other single UK port. In 2000 this amounted to over 50 million tonnes of cargo - almost 10% of UK trade. Twenty-five worldwide countries are serviced, including up to 60 unit load sailings each week, with scheduled services operating to a range of Northern European and Baltic ports, as well as conventional services to countries as far afield as South Africa, China and the USA.
Access to the Channel Tunnel head at Folkestone, via the motorway network, is a major advantage for companies trading the European Union and beyond as it can be reached within three to four hours of the region. Greater Lincoln is also close to car ferry services from Hull to Rotterdam and Zeebrugge, and from Harwich to the Hook of Holland and Esjberg.
