secondary schools

Bringing out academic and vocational excellence

Moving onto secondary school can be daunting. For parents it's about choosing the best environment to nurture particular talents and interests, for children it's about adjusting to new surroundings and new faces, and tackling new challenges. In Greater Lincoln we aim to make the transition as smooth as possible, helping children and young adults to get the most out of an education system that is second to none.

At the secondary level, there is a choice of: comprehensive and secondary modern schools, some of which have specialisms and select 10% of their pupils on the basis of aptitude for a particular subject; grammar schools which aim to select the top 25% of children in Lincolnshire based on academic performance in the 11+ selection tests; all-ability city academies; and independent private schools.

In addition, the Gainsborough Educational Village, which opened in 2009, is an exciting development which saw four schools combining to raise attainment levels, provide state-of-the-art facilities and offer a wider, more varied programme of learning.

Such a wide choice of high-performing schools ensures that Greater Lincoln can nurture the individual talents and ambitions of each child in a school environment that best suits the way they learn.
