From gentle rambles to extreme energy
If your idea of sport is a long walk and a pub lunch, then you're in the right region. Greater Lincoln abounds with spectacular city and countryside walks, and the terrain's not too challenging, unless you factor in Lincoln's distinctive limestone ridge. The same gentle landscape and abundance of quiet country lanes and bridleways also make the area ideal for cycling and horse riding - perfect for taking in the vast skies and open vistas that are so distinctive to Lincolnshire.
You can enjoy a ride or walk along one of our many rivers and canals, made even more enjoyable by considerable recent investment into paths, nature reserves, bridges locks, moorings, and angling and boating facilities. Here is where you can take part in fishing, canoeing, boating and water skiing, plus you can head out to the coast for more energetic kite surfing.
Also on the more extreme side, the region's flat landscape is perfect for sky diving and gliding; you can learn to glide at RAF Cranwell. But there's also quad biking, paint balling, climbing… you name it!
Development of young people's sporting prowess and encouraging children of all abilities to take part in sport and exercise for a healthy life, are also extremely important in Greater Lincoln. So we ensure sports facilities, leisure centres and coaching are available to all and second to none.
